My digital illustration path had not yet started and I knew that drawing on the Note would give me creative freedom at anytime I felt like drawing. I was able to walk into the AT&T store by the time the Note 2 was in stores, and get me a new one since my contract was up. My satisfaction was a bit short lived as every year the smartphone technology has continued to expand to the point that drawing on a phone is not the novelty it once was. Currently I own several Note phones, I collect them really. I want the ability to draw on the go, quick and easy, right out of my pocket. I want to be able to sketch out my ideas before I forget them. And if I use Adobe Draw and Adobe Sketch on the Note and export to Adobe Illustrator then I can finish an illustration for a client! Get you a Samsung Note off craigslist, facebook marketplace, anywhere you can and get to drawing, they are cheap now! Also, the pen I am using is the Bamboo Pen for Samsung Note tablets and smartphones by Wacom. It is worth every penny! Day 4 of 7 Day #DigitalChallenge continues with the big timer Cintiq 21UX by Wacom and the HP ProDesk lil machine with Windows 10
https://youtu.be/yJimb8nF2Rk I will be drawing on @SketchableApp Link to the channel here: www.youtube.com/c/Vectormaestros Subscribe and turn on notifications, you do not want to miss!!!! There is a bit of dust in between the glass and the digitizer but the performance in the display is still the best of all the tablets and computers I have ever used. The 21 inch size allows for the full use of my arm, elbow and wrist to get super clean lines in my art. The Stylus is the right size for my hand and theres a rubbery grip that makes it easy to handle. I buy soft tips to replace the hard plastic tips that the stylus comes with, those soft tips gives me just enough friction to give me that paper and pencil feeling. The HP ProDesk is a new addition, its powered with 16GB of RAM, an i5 Processor and just enough Hard Disk space to house my current digital projects. Its a nice handy machine to give the Cintiq enough juice to produce good client artwork. Day 3 of 7 Day #DigitalChallenge continues with easy to access devices and tablets like
the amazing Dell Venue 8, running full windows 10!!! I will be drawing on my favorite app: @SketchableApp Link to the channel here: www.youtube.com/c/Vectormaestros Subscribe and turn on notifications, you do not want to miss!!!! Day 1: https://youtu.be/Q6bkS-4pHF8 Day 2 https://youtu.be/AfWrHfsDhgg This is my second little Dell Venue 8. My addiction to tech is rooted in the ability to draw with each device and the Venue 8 is perfect. This Dell is 2GB RAM, 32GB SSD and with the pen, I can draw right on the screen. I bought a Pluggable hub and I can connect a keyboard, a mouse and extra screen all the while charging. I enjoy this little guy! The Azteca Moderno mural at Underground Atlanta by Dan Flores aka DTM aka DeltaTangoMike was painted in 5 days with the assistance of over 15 artists. The video captured in those five days have been condensed into a one hour frame lapse video.
About Azteca Moderno Art Series:
The Born and raised in East Los Angeles, my Mexican history is evident in the multitude of murals and art in our neighborhoods. Many a mural tell the story of the Aztec Gods leading the Nahuatl people across the continent, from the mythical land of Aztlan to the south towards modern day Mexico City, to the city-state once known as Tenochtitlan. Spending my early childhood in the classroom in Mexico City, I listened to the stories of Aztec victory, bravery and defeat of the Aztec Empire. Stories that included amazing Aztec Gods like Tezcatlipoca, God of Destiny. Quetzalcoatl, God of Learning and Creativity. Chalchiuhtlicue, Goddess of Water, Life and Beauty. Chicomecoatl, Goddess of Agriculture and Plenty. Myth and History have no beginning and no end. We are part of that Myth, we are the continuation of that History. Azteca Moderno is my interpretation of those myths into modern day physical realities through my creative expression on the columns in Underground Atlanta. Atlanta is a city of diversity and inclusion. The Mexican and LatinX population have steadily grown from the Buford Hwy Corridor to south of Hartsfield Airport as proof that given a chance, our cultures can thrive together in harmony. The Aztec characters have creative tools like pencils, pens and markers instead of weapons. We are in charge of creating our futures now.

About the Atlanta Underground Mural:
Azteca Moderno Mural at Underground Atlanta is part of the program by WRS to revitalize downtown Atlanta with awesome art in partnership with Cultivating Cultures, Art Is King and local artists. The first step are the white pillars sitting along Upper Alabama Street, Artists DTM, C Flux Sings, Travis Love and Pash Lima were commissioned to bring to life art that represents culture, diversity, inclusiveness and togetherness. The pillars at the intersection of Upper Alabama Street and Pryor Street were chosen by DTM for their proximity to the Post Office Co-work (our awesome sponsor!) building, a classic Atlanta landmark now in use by the local tech and entrepreneurship community. About the artists: DTM designed the Azteca Moderno Mural, started with markers and finished with paintbrushes. In between, a long list of awesome artists gave their time to contribute their artistic skills. This includes some 2017 and 2018 illustrations, drawings, sketches, vectors, doodles and personal artwork.
I have lots more personal art I can add to this collection but when I got to 44 images, I got tired! Some of the art is produced on Sketchable App on the Surface Pro 4 and Windows 10. Some of the art is produced on Comic Draw App and Adobe Illustrator Draw and Adobe Photoshop Sketch. Some of the art is produced on Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator on my 27" iMac 4K. In each case, I work on theses pieces in between client projects, I have to set time aside to draw for myself no matter how close the deadline. Drawing is my peace, drawing is my sanity, drawing is my inspiration and drawing is my joy. I draw when I'm happy. I draw when I'm upset. I draw when I'm sad and I draw when I have a moment to myself. Azteca Moderno is an art series centered around the art and life of the Gods of Ancient Mexico, once worshipped by tribes and peoples of the Aztec Empire. I started on that theme many years ago and the evolution of the art style and subjects keeps expanding to the point where I am only interested in painting on big canvas at least 3 feet wide. There will be many digital illustrations along the way as I also intend to explore the digital medium as part of my creative path. In order to join the 2017 ABL art tour (sponsored by Jack Daniel's, Gentleman Jack, Honey Jack), I had to submit some current art samples to the curator: Dubelyoo. He always says that an artist should create constantly, not just when they are asked to create. So that means that I should have current work that shows what I want to do for the ABL tour. Thats fair.
These pieces were created during 2017, some for myself and some for the art shows I was involved in.
The line work in my art has many fans, and the color palette adds a bit of drama to the composition of my Aztec Gods and Goddesses. Dubelyoo gave me the ok to produce a sketch that will show my composition for a 16 feet long and 8 feet tall corner wall.
Challenge Accepted.
On the left is my initial idea, middle and to the right are the drawings with the composition suggested by Dubelyoo.
The illustration was first drawn up on @SketchableApp to get the layout approved by ABL's Curator @Dubelyoo. We started on the wall on a Sunday afternoon and the first thing we did was to layout the sketch on the wall with the help of a projector. We spent a few hours using Sharpie markers to carefully outline the different Aztec Gods and dropping in the first layer of paint. The second day was for a second coat and line clean up. This was the shortest day as we had to let the paint dry between passes. The third and final day, was the longest, most tedious and detailed day. The line work to define the characters is very important. The line work to define the details. The thick and thin lines help show depth and volume to help each element stand out on its own. This is where the composition comes together to see the big picture! The wall mural was completed in 30 hours with big help from @TresFloresss, @BGIllustrations and @TheMaddPenciler. Without them, it would've taken me a lot longer to complete. The mural has now visited several cities including Houston, Chicago, Mercedez-Benz Stadium in Atlanta and St Louis Missouri. Visit @artbeatsandlyrics for upcoming 2017 Tour Dates. Look for the hashtag #ArtBeatsandLyrics #ABL Not only is my wall mural in the Art Beats and Lyrics Art Tour sponsored by Jack Daniel's, also, I had a chance to draw live on some Jack Daniel's whiskey barrels in front of Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Downtown Atlanta. I started thinking about Inktober back in mid September and I questioned myself into how I would tackle the challenge of adding a second challenge to my already busy schedule. Whats the first challenge you ask? #DrawDaily2017 where I have challenged myself to draw digitally everyday for the whole year of 2017 on a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and Sketchable App. See more of those drawings on instagram.com/deltatangomike
Back to #Inktober! So in the last couple of days of September, I started to play with my ink pens and brushes, slowly testing out how they feel on the paper of my newest sketchbook. There were moments of trial and error where I wasn’t sure of my skills as it had been a while since I finished a drawing in traditional ink and paper. As I mentioned above, 2017 was the year of digital and the Surface Pro was my focus. I do sketch on paper everyday, with a pencil, so I am not totally out of practice. You can see that in my ink test drawings Batman looks crazy. I am trying out the pens, get a feel for their strengths and figure out for my weaknesses, etc. I picked the pens that worked for me and put away the rest. October 1st comes around and its time! There was a rough time going for sure. I drew a bunch of drawings that did not make it to this post. I was unhappy with my ink drawings but I understood that this is why I am participating in the #Inktober challenge: To Improve My Drawing Skills!!! I could tell after day 5 that I was now in my groove, my inking skills were improving and I would see better drawings as the month went by. 31 drawings later I am glad I stuck to the challenge and completed my drawings. I believe that through practice we sharpen our talents and Inktober is no exception. Follow me on social medias under my artist name: @DeltaTangoMike and dacreativegenius https://youtu.be/SJxVev0dR6w In the debate leading into the month of Inktober, there were voices vying to be heard: the traditional vs digital mediums. The word from the Inktober creator Jake Parker to leading illustration giants was that traditional ink drawing is the purpose for Inktober. And then there were others who spoke for the right of the artist to choose their medium. Everybody is right. The reality is that drawing everyday is a necessary practice to build skill. The exercise of drawing, whether digital or traditional, is where Inktober, Draw Daily and countless other creative challenges begin and end for an artist. I remember when art materials were scarce and all i had was copy paper and Number 2 pencils to draw with. As my tool collection grew, so did some of my specific skills. Pencils, Inks, Acrylics, Watercolors, Tattoos and Digital Illustration. For me, Inktober is a personal challenge to keep my inking skills sharp, to remember the feeling of the ink brush against the paper and to familiarize myself to other inking tools besides my everyday illustration tools like the Wacom Cintiq and the Microsoft Surface Pro 4. In short ten short days, the practice of drawing with my ink pens has refreshed my desire to draw traditionally. Thats the beauty of creativity, the more you use it, the more you have! My Inktober focus is to draw everyday in October, one fresh Batman drawing on paper with my ink pens from Copic, Staedtler, Zig, Pentel, PaperMate, Sharpie, Sakura, Micron, Prismacolor and every other unkown brand of inks I get my hands on. Whatever your focus this Inktober is for you, make sure you draw. Draw Everyday and Enjoy Yourself!
